John C. Hoard

Career Highlights

In law school, Mr. Hoard was associate editor of the Indiana Law Review and a member of Phi Delta Phi fraternity. Recently, he served on the Sigmund J. Beck Bankruptcy Roundtable, which is composed of five practicing lawyers and law school professors within the state of Indiana who conduct a yearly forum on bankruptcy. Mr. Hoard has also taught seminars in creditors’ rights, bankruptcy, corporate reorganization and tax.

Mr. Hoard is the past chair to the Indiana State Bar Association Bankruptcy and Creditors’ Rights Section. He is a Distinguished Fellow with the Indianapolis Bar Association and Indiana State Bar Association.

Mr. Hoard’s legal, financial and transactional experience is extensive. As a lawyer and Certified Public Accountant, he has had significant experience in real estate, utility, bankruptcy and commercial law including participation in the successful planning and reorganization of multiple bankruptcy estates in the areas of health care, retail, real estate, manufacturing and metal fabricating. He has participated in major bankruptcies including a steel mill liquidation, women’s apparel, the operation and transfer of hotels, and preferences and fraudulent transfer analyses including prosecution of Ponzi schemes against insider defendants. He has successfully negotiated many cash collateral orders and financing agreements for credit institutions and debtors. He has also represented clients before the Internal Revenue Service and Indiana Department of Revenue.

In addition to his business and bankruptcy experience, Mr. Hoard has participated in complex litigation including civil fraud and professional malpractice cases. Mr. Hoard’s appellate experience has brought him before the Indiana Supreme Court as an oral advocate for his clients.
